Kapaun Mt. Carmel Senior

Meet Jacob. Jacob is a 2011 Kapaun Mt Carmel Senior. Jacob's mom and I had played quite a bit of phone tag prior to Jacob's Senior Session since it had to be rescheduled about three times due to extreme winds. It is Kansas, after all! Finally, one day, we just decided to go for it!! There was a small chance of rain, but the winds were low. Jacob's mom didn't think it would take that long since Jacob was really just taking the photos for her....like most senior boys do!! We figured thirty minutes. Tops! We could handle that!! Besides, there was going be overcast....a photographer's dream lighting condition!! We could definitely get a few good shots, right??

Well as the day progressed, it was getting darker and darker. I was getting nervous! I summoned the help of my handsome second shooter to assist with lighting, packed my largest reflector, both external flashes and anything else I could think of to get light in Jacob's face!

Wouldn't you know it? As soon as we started shooting, we felt RAIN DROPS!!! Thank Goodness it didn't last for long!! But it was DARK!! There was no light to reflect back into Jacob's face with the reflector. We couldn't rely on natural light. We had to to get creative. We had to take all of the photos with a flash.....without making it look "flashy," of course! All of the shots were taken with the flash either off-camera with my handsome assistant holding the flash, or on-camera in which I bounced it into a diffuser that my handsome assistant was holding in the air at which by that time, the wind speed picked up, so that big diffuser was now kind of like a sail in the wind! There is no way that I could have made this session work without my handsome assistant. Not only is he the best second shooter and assistant ever, he is the best HUSBAND EVER!! Thank you for all of your help that day, honey <3!!

Well I met Jacob and our "thirty minutes" turned into about an hour and a half!! It was a bit cold, but he braved it and did a great job....never complaining once!! He is such a nice guy and has a great personality!! We had a lot of fun taking photos of him!!!I see why his mom is so proud of him!!

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation Jacob!! I wish you the best of luck in the Air Force and with all of your future endeavors! I know you will do well with whatever path you choose!!! Thanks for letting me document this important time in our life!!
